When we hear ‘Bangla cinema’, what crosses our minds first? Do we instantly think about all those legendary films left behind by phenomenal directors like Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak, Mrinal Sen, Tapan Sinha, Zahir Raihan, and Khan Ataur Rahman? That might not be the case. Rather, we get flashes of the most unique dance moves exhibited by the super entertaining Dhallywood actors, parading in their vibrant costumes. We get reminded of extremely realistic hero vs. villain action scenes followed by the abduction of the heroine and the intervening of the police exactly at the right moment. The meaningful romantic interactions between the well-dressed heroine and the macho hero might also spring to our eyes at the talk of Bangla cinema. Don't we all remember being glued to the screen, delighting in the undying love and war between the rich and poor? I bet this has been the medium of learning for a lot of us that the poverty-stricken ones can also have their ‘happily ever after’. This work is a tribute to the unique world of Bangla cinema, the fantastical sphere it has created in our minds.
